Who is this course for?

This course is for students interested in learning Auslan as a second or additional language. This includes students who are new to the language or have some prior study at the Primary year levels.

What will I learn?

  • students will learn to communicate personal information and ideas in Auslan.
  • students will learn to reflect on their own linguistic and cultural practices and begin to apply this new understanding in their communication with others.
  • students will understand the linguistic, historic and cultural trends and developments in the context of national and international Deaf communities and signed languages.

How will I be assessed?

There will be a range of multimodal tasks that will assess students' signing and receptive skills, and provide an opportunity for students to show their knowledge and understanding of Auslan and the Deaf community and culture.
